Temple Grounds Work

Our Ward was invited to do work at the temple. A new perspective was observed as we realize all the work that goes on to invite the Spirit in the House of the Lord. The full-time grounds keepers explained some interesting things.  First, they are responsible for maintaining the 20 acers of land around the temple.  Second, our job was to cultivate the mulch around the tree rings.  Normal professional landscapers each year will trim the grass ring around the tree, weed the area and then apply mulch.  Those things were done this summer.  However he explaind that they have "Temple Stardards" when it comes to maintaining the Temple grounds.  So after the summer heat and water has compacted and discolored the mulch, they go the extra mile and cultivate it to help the dark color return and look fresh.
We started by the road and worked our way closer to the temple.  So many showed up and it made for fun, quick and enjoyable work.  We loved seeing our amazing youth participate!
Question to ponder: How can this process be applied to our own lives?
