Temple and Family History Work is an essential part of the Gathering of Israel. Speaking at a Worldwide Youth Devotional on June 3, 2018, President Russel M. Nelson said the following:
"The Gathering of Israel ultimately means offering the gospel of Jesus Christ to God's children on both sides of the veil..."
"My dear extraordinary youth, you were sent to earth at this precise time, the most crucial time in the history of the world, to help gather Israel. There is nothing happening on this earth right now that is more important than that. There is nothing of greater consequence. Absolutely nothing."
In the same talk, President Nelson defined the "Gathering of Israel" as:
"Anytime you do anything that helps anyone—on either side of the veil—take a step toward making covenants with God and receiving their essential baptismal and temple ordinances, you are helping to gather Israel. It is as simple as that."
The Gathering of Israel is the essence or main point of Temple and Family History work. Not only are we inviting individuals to come unto Christ, but we are helping unite and invite whole families to come unto Christ.
Although President Nelson was addressing the youth, he was really addressing all of us. Elder Holland's definition of "youth" includes "anyone President Nelson's age or younger." https://youtu.be/nKAGTJIPTyQ?si=sjqppew5HuiBGx5x
